The cost savings realized from the Maintenance phase ranges from 10% to 15% of all lift truck related expenditures. In certain cases, where the necessary controls to manage these issues are below standard, the savings realized during this phase can be extremely dramatic.*
* In one instance, two lift trucks from the same location were replaced at lease end. Those lifts had lease end return costs of $7,491 in one case and $8,594 in the other, most of which was a result of improper maintenance throughout the life cycle of those vehicles, and were well beyond the established budget allocations.
In another instance, it was discovered that a lift truck had accumulated an extreme amount of excessive hours, to the point that if nothing was done the lease end costs would exceed $15,000 just on “excess hours” charges alone.
